STAMFORD, CT — A 48-year-old man faces drunken driving charges after crashing into a dump truck at high speed on Long Ridge Road.

The collision occurred near the intersection with Roxbury Road on July 28 at approximately 9 p.m.

Michael Lombardo, of Stamford, was driving a 2024 Kia EV6 SUV southbound on Long Ridge Road when he struck the rear of a 2007 Sterling dump truck, according to the Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad.

The dump truck had been slowing down as the traffic light at Long Ridge Road and Roxbury Road changed from green to red.

The impact caused severe damage to the Kia, and Lombardo had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Lombardo suffered serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The dump truck operator was transported to Stamford Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

Investigators determined Lombardo was traveling at speeds up to 80 mph prior to the crash.

Lombardo’s blood alcohol content was more than double the legal limit, police said.

He was charged with operating under the influence and reckless operation.

Lombardo was released after posting $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 10.
