Business owner arrested on drug, weapons charges in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Detectives from the New Rochelle Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division have arrested a local business owner following a months-long investigation into illegal drug sales and weapons possession.

Amir Babiker, 28, of New Rochelle, was taken into custody on Oct. 24 after officers executed a search warrant at Amir’s Wine and Spirits at 701 Main Street at approximately 3 p.m.

The operation stemmed from intelligence gathered over several months indicating that Babiker was distributing cocaine from the premises while operating the licensed liquor store.

During the search, officers recovered two loaded handguns – a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a .32-caliber 2 shot Derringer – along with approximately 21 grams of cocaine packaged for street-level distribution.

Babiker was taken into custody without incident and held without bail pending arraignment.

He faces charges including two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.
