GATES, NY — Police have arrested a Rochester man in connection with a burglary and attempted burglary at two Spencerport Road businesses.

Gates Police Officers responded to Papa Joes Restaurant at 485 Spencerport Road on Oct. 19 for a report of a commercial burglary.

Officers determined the location had been broken into and that money and a cash bag had been stolen.

While investigating that incident, officers were alerted to an attempted burglary at Savastanos Bakery at 477 Spencerport Road.

Investigators reviewed CCTV footage and determined both incidents involved the same suspect.

A description of the suspect and a getaway bike were obtained.

On Oct. 24, a Gates Police Officer working in the area of Sherman Street and Lyell Avenue in Rochester observed the suspect on Sherman Street.

Officers took Richard Graham, 62, of Rochester, into custody without incident.

Graham was transported to the Gates Police Department where he was processed.

Police charged Graham with burglary in the third degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree and criminal mischief in the third degree in connection with the Papa Joes incident.

He was also charged with attempted burglary in the third degree and criminal mischief in the third degree in connection with the Savastanos incident.

Graham was found to be a predicate felon with 10 prior felony convictions, two of which were violent felonies.

He was released on parole in May after serving time with the New York State Department of Corrections.

Graham was brought to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment in Monroe County CAP Court.

Police are investigating additional incidents in the same area that fit the suspect’s method of operation, and additional charges may be filed.
