Woman arrested on DUI charge in Clarendon

CLARENDON, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a Rutland woman on drunken driving charges after she crashed into a road sign and drove the wrong way on a divided highway before her vehicle became stuck in a rest area.

Bridget Vaccaro, 59, of Rutland, was charged with driving under the influence and negligent operation following the incident on U.S. Route 7.

Troopers from the Rutland Barracks were notified of a motor vehicle crash at approximately 8:17 a.m. Oct. 26 in a rest area on U.S. Route 7.

Through investigation, police determined Vaccaro was operating a motor vehicle on a public highway and struck a road sign near Windcrest Road.

Vaccaro later traveled the wrong direction on a divided highway before entering the rest area.

After entering the rest area, she drove off the travel lane where her vehicle became stuck in the grass.

While speaking with Vaccaro, troopers observed signs of impairment.

Vaccaro was screened for DUI and subsequently arrested.

She was transported to the Rutland Barracks for processing and later released on citation to appear at Vermont Superior Court, Rutland Criminal Division.
