Armed burglary suspect arrested in Greece

GREECE, NY — Police arrested a Rochester man on multiple charges after he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home while armed with a shotgun and stole her vehicle.

Officers responded to a home on Bancroft Drive at approximately 6:57 a.m. on Oct. 24 for a report of a burglary in progress.

The victim reported that Joseph R. Alessi, 40, of Rochester, forcibly entered her apartment by kicking in the front door.

Alessi, who does not reside at the location, was observed walking through the home armed with a shotgun.

During the incident, Alessi allegedly damaged property, took the victim’s car keys and stole her vehicle.

Responding officers recovered the shotgun discarded on the property.

A countywide alert for Alessi and the stolen vehicle was immediately broadcast.

Rochester Police Department officers later located the stolen vehicle unoccupied on Maple Street in Rochester.

Following coordinated efforts between both agencies, Alessi was located and arrested at a residence on Maple Street.

He was transported to Greece Police headquarters for processing.

Alessi was charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, third-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Alessi was taken to the county jail for arraignment.
