Multiple gunshots fired in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Police are searching for a person of interest after multiple gunshots were fired during an altercation on Sherman Street near Stearns Street.

Cambridge Emergency Communications received several 9-1-1 calls at 10:58 a.m. reporting the gunfire.

Patrol officers arrived to find ballistic evidence and witness statements confirming a shooting had occurred.

Preliminary information suggests two to three people had an altercation in the roadway, with one possibly on a bicycle, during which at least one person fired multiple gunshots at another.

All those involved fled the scene before officers arrived and are not believed to still be in the area.

There are no known victims with gunshot wounds at this time.

Out of an abundance of caution, Harvard University issued a shelter-in-place order and notifications were made to nearby schools and places of interest.

Sherman Street and several surrounding roadways were closed while detectives processed the scene but have since reopened.

Detectives have released pictures of a person of interest in regard to this incident, though this individual is not currently wanted.
