BOSTON, MA — Two men were arrested Thursday following an armed robbery at a grocery store in the South End.

At about 4:40 p.m. on Oct. 23, an officer assigned to District D-4 responded to a well-being check at 696 Massachusetts Avenue and was flagged down by an individual reporting an armed robbery that had just occurred at 1813 Washington Street.

The victim appeared injured and stated that he had been assaulted and robbed by two suspects inside a local grocery store.

One suspect reportedly punched the victim in the head and stole cash from his person, while the second struck the victim in the head with a bottle.

One suspect also allegedly threatened the victim with what was described as a small black object, possibly a firearm, before the victim fled and sought police assistance.

Officers broadcast a description of the suspects, and responding units observed two individuals matching the provided descriptions near the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street.

Upon approach, both suspects fled on foot in separate directions.

After short foot pursuits, both were apprehended, one in the area of Shawmut Avenue and Pelham Street and the other near Tremont Street and Upton Street.

The suspects were identified as Jahar Pinkett, 42, of Dorchester, and Anthony Crumbley, 29, of Boston.

A search of Pinkett resulted in the recovery of cash consistent with the amount reported stolen.

Officers also recovered a plastic bag containing a rock-like substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine.

No firearm was recovered.

Pinkett was found to have an active warrant out of Boston Municipal Court for Violation of an Abuse Prevention Order.

Pinkett will be charged with armed robbery, assault and battery, and possession of a Class B substance.

Crumbley will be charged with armed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Both individuals are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
