MIDDLESEX, VT — A three-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 89 southbound at mile marker 56 on Oct. 24.

Vermont State Police troopers from the Berlin Barracks and deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 11:09 a.m.

The crash occurred in a one-lane work zone during cloudy and rainy conditions on wet pavement.

Patrick Khoury, 29, of Athol, Massachusetts, was driving a 2021 Ford Explorer southbound when he observed brake lights on the vehicle ahead of him.

Khoury applied his brakes but was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision.

His vehicle struck a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze operated by Cassandra Northcutt, 26, of Ada, Oklahoma.

The impact pushed Northcutt’s vehicle into the rear of a 2023 Honda Accord operated by Veronica Clements, 61, of Hopkinton, Massachusetts.

All three vehicles came to rest out of the traveled portion of the roadway.

Emergency medical services personnel evaluated all parties at the scene.
