Man arrested on weapons charge in Orleans, NY

ORLEANS, NY — A 40-year-old man was arrested after allegedly fleeing from a domestic dispute while armed with a handgun on Oct. 22.

Geoffrey M. Ingersoll, of La Fargeville, was taken into custody without incident after being found attempting to hide on a property on County Route 13 in the town of Orleans.

State Police responded to County Route 13 in the town of Alexandria at approximately 3 p.m. for a report of a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, troopers learned that Ingersoll had fled the residence on foot into a nearby field while armed with a handgun.

Law enforcement units established a perimeter and conducted a search for the suspect.

An individual within the established perimeter provided information that led responding law enforcement units to successfully locate the suspect.

A handgun was recovered as part of the investigation.

Ingersoll was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony.

He was arraigned in Jefferson County CAP Court and remanded to the custody of the Jefferson County Jail without bail.

Assisting agencies included the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Watertown Police Department, Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force, Jefferson County / Watertown Police Department SERT Team, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Police, NYS Forest Rangers, U.S. Border Patrol, and the Jefferson County Office of Fire and Emergency Management.
