Dryer fire extinguished in Woodstock

1 min read

WOODSTOCK, NY— Police responded to and extinguished a dryer fire at a Chancellor Lane residence Thursday morning.

When the first officer arrived on scene shortly before 7:30 a.m., he observed heavy smoke coming from the back of the house.

When officers entered, they found the clothes dryer on fire in the basement.

Police emptied three fire extinguishers on the dryer, but that didn’t extinguish the flames.

They located a garden hose, first dousing the surrounding walls and floor to cool them down.

Eventually they pried open the dryer door to put water directly on the flames and put out the fire.

The fire company subsequently responded, removed the dryer and ventilated the residence.

The building inspector also responded, as did one of the department’s fire investigators.

The fire has been ruled accidental, started by clothing inside the dryer drum.

All responding officers were evaluated for smoke inhalation and none were seriously hurt.
