Man arrested on theft charges in Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, NY — Police arrested a man Tuesday morning after he allegedly attempted to steal an electric bicycle from a westside residence.

Officers from the First Platoon responded to the address at approximately 9:56 a.m. for a report of a suspicious situation.

An investigation determined that Christopher W. Smith attempted to steal an ebike from the location and damaged property during the theft attempt, according to the Jamestown Police Department.

Smith was located a short distance away and taken into custody.

He was transported to the Jamestown City Jail where he is being charged with attempted petit larceny, fourth-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal tampering and possession of burglar’s tools.

Smith also had an outstanding arrest warrant out of the City of Jamestown.
