BOSTON, MA — A Mattapan man was arrested Tuesday evening after police say he attempted to flee on a stolen moped and was found in possession of 36 grams of fentanyl.
Troy Boyette, 34, of Mattapan, was taken into custody by officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force at approximately 7:21 p.m. in the area of 6 Atherton Street.
Officers on patrol observed a group of individuals near a running vehicle with license plates that were reported stolen.
Police also observed a man on a moped without a helmet that was stationary on the sidewalk.
As officers approached, the man on the moped attempted to flee on the sidewalk, but an officer grabbed the moped before he could escape.
The suspect fell to the ground and fled on foot.
Officers pursued and apprehended the suspect as he ran toward Columbus Avenue.
Boyette resisted arrest and refused to comply with officers’ orders, police said.
During the struggle, officers felt what they believed to be a firearm in his left pocket, which was later determined to be a starter pistol.
A pill bottle containing 84 prescription pills that did not belong to Boyette fell to the ground during the arrest.
A search revealed four plastic bags of fentanyl weighing approximately 36 grams, $509 in U.S. currency, and the moped, which was reported stolen.
Boyette is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of trafficking of Class A, operating a motor vehicle without a license, subsequent offense, possession with intent to distribute Class B, subsequent offense, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
The stolen license plates on the nearby vehicle were seized, and another individual was summonsed to Roxbury District Court for number plate violation and receiving stolen property.
