Man arrested on DWI charge in Locke

LOCKE, NY — A 65-year-old man was arrested on drunken driving and other charges after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop.

David R. Costley, of Locke, was arrested at 7:35 p.m. on Oct. 17 and charged with driving while intoxicated, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.

A deputy observed a black Ford Mustang traveling westbound on Route 90 near Tollgate Hill Road at 83 mph in a posted 55 mph zone at approximately 7:09 p.m. on Oct. 17, according to the sheriff’s office.

The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop by activating overhead emergency lights and sirens, but the operator refused to comply and continued driving onto Tollgate Hill Road at the posted speed limit, according to the sheriff’s office.

The operator threw a can out the vehicle window before pulling into a residential driveway on Tollgate Hill Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

The deputy apprehended Costley, who was found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated by alcohol, according to the sheriff’s office.

Costley was processed at the Public Safety Building, where he refused to submit to a chemical test to determine his blood alcohol content, according to the sheriff’s office.

Costley was arraigned at CAP court and released on his own recognizance to appear in the Town of Locke at a future date.
