STRATFORD, CT — A man called police to report he had stabbed his girlfriend and wanted to kill himself on Oct. 20, according to Stratford Police Captain Jerry Pinto.
Stanley Mulvey, 67, of Stratford, called the police dispatch center at approximately 7 p.m. and told dispatchers he had stabbed his girlfriend at 86 Griffen Street.
Mulvey identified himself and said his girlfriend’s name was Megan McShane, 62, of Stratford.
Officers arrived to find Mulvey lying on top of an unresponsive McShane on the kitchen floor.
Both were covered in blood, and a large kitchen knife covered with blood was observed nearby.
Mulvey refused to obey officers’ commands to remove himself from atop McShane, so officers used physical force to remove him from the home.
Mulvey was handcuffed and placed into a marked police car.
Mulvey made several admissions to officers that he had killed McShane.
A Stratford EMS paramedic arrived on scene and pronounced McShane deceased from homicidal injuries.
Mulvey is a convicted felon who had been previously arrested for a domestic violence incident in which McShane was the victim in May.
Mulvey was transported to headquarters and charged with murder and interfering with a police officer.
He is being held on $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 21.
