1 min read

ORANGE, CT — Police are warning residents about scammers impersonating law enforcement officers and demanding payment to resolve fake warrants.

The Orange Police Department said it has received multiple calls from victims who reported the department’s phone number is being spoofed by scammers.

The callers claim to have warrants for the victims or their loved ones, or threaten legal consequences if victims do not comply with their demands.

Police said the scammers request payment through gift cards, payment apps or cryptocurrency.

The department emphasized it will never ask for payment over the phone, especially through those methods.

Police are urging residents to hang up on suspicious callers and report the incidents to authorities.
