Driver dies in crash in Brandon

BRANDON, VT — A 62-year-old man died after his vehicle struck a utility pole early Tuesday morning.

David Fletcher, of Brandon, was traveling south on Forest Dale Road when his vehicle exited the west side of the roadway and struck a utility pole near Country Club Road at approximately 12:58 a.m.

The vehicle came to rest off the west side of the road.

Green Mountain Power workers were performing CPR on Fletcher when Vermont State Police troopers from the Rutland Barracks arrived at the scene.

Fletcher was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Brandon Rescue transported Fletcher to Rutland Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Members of the Brandon Fire Department, Regional Ambulance Service and Vermont State Police also responded to the scene.

Roads were wet from rain at the time of the crash.

Alcohol is presumed to be a contributing factor in the crash, according to police.

The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport was totaled.
