Former mayor stabbed in Fall River

FALL RIVER, MA — A former mayor was stabbed Tuesday evening in what police are calling an active investigation.

Multiple calls came in around 5 p.m. reporting a stabbing near the 100 block of Hartwell Street, according to the Fall River Police Department.

Officers and emergency medical services responded to find Will Flanagan, a former Fall River mayor, suffering from significant injuries.

Flanagan was transported to an area hospital, where he is listed in serious but stable condition.

The Patrol Bureau and Major Case Division are working to identify and apprehend a suspect.

Police said they are pursuing multiple leads.
