Two crashes result in injuries in Red Hook

RED HOOK, NY — Two separate crashes on South Broadway resulted in injuries on Friday.

At approximately 2:28 p.m., Red Hook police were dispatched by DC 911 for a report of a two-car motor vehicle crash with injuries on South Broadway at the intersection of Garden Street.

Upon investigation, it was determined a 2006 Buick being operated by an 87-year-old Red Hook man was traveling east on Garden Street approaching South Broadway.

The driver hit the gas instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to proceed through the intersection.

The Buick then struck head-on with a 2017 Chrysler that was northbound on South Broadway being operated by a 38-year-old woman from Red Hook.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Northern Dutchess Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Buick refused medical attention and was subsequently issued tickets for failing to stop at a stop sign and failure to yield right of way.

Red Hook police were assisted on scene by Red Hook and Tivoli fire departments and Empress EMS.

At approximately 8:05 p.m., Red Hook police were dispatched by DC 911 for a report of a car versus motorcycle crash with injuries on South Broadway in front of Savonnas Trattoria.

Upon investigation, it was determined that a 2021 Harley Davidson motorcycle was southbound on South Broadway being operated by a 60-year-old man from Florida.

At the same time, a 2023 Subaru was northbound on South Broadway being operated by a 36-year-old woman from Red Hook.

The woman attempted to make a left-hand turn into the parking lot of Savonnas, causing a head-on collision with the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike upon impact.

He suffered multiple injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital for treatment.

The woman, who was not injured, was subsequently issued a traffic ticket for failing to yield the right of way.

Red Hook police were assisted on scene by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Red Hook and Tivoli fire departments and Empress EMS.
