OWASCO, NY — A 53-year-old man was arrested on drunken driving charges after allegedly crossing the center line and nearly causing a head-on collision with a sheriff’s deputy.

Lewis H. Rosekrans, of Sempronius, was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and failure to keep right, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.

A deputy was traveling north on East Lake Road in the town of Sempronius at approximately 9:49 p.m. on Oct. 6 when a vehicle traveling southbound crossed over the yellow center line, causing the deputy to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid a collision, Schenck said.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop and determined the driver was intoxicated, according to the release.

Rosekrans was taken into custody and transported to the Public Safety Building, where he provided a breath sample reading of .19% blood alcohol content, Schenck said.

He is scheduled to appear in Owasco Town Court on Oct. 28 at 6:00 p.m.
