IRVINGTON, NJ — An Essex County jury has convicted a 63-year-old man of raping a 10-year-old girl.
Osbourne Gooden, of Irvington, was found guilty Friday of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and third-degree criminal restraint.
Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II announced the verdict Tuesday.
The jury returned its verdict Oct. 10 following a six-day trial before Judge Michael L. Ravin.
Prosecutors said the assault occurred June 22, 2020, when the victim was sitting on her front porch with her mother and sister, eating ice pops with Gooden and his friend.
When the victim went inside to get another ice pop, Gooden followed her inside and raped her, prosecutors said.
Assistant Prosecutor Cynthia Teller and Assistant Prosecutor Steven Paskowitz tried the case.
Gooden is scheduled for sentencing Nov. 21.
He faces 25 years to life in state prison and will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
