STRATFORD, NJ — A suspect was taken into custody by police within minutes of a bank robbery Thursday morning, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Stratford Police Chief Ronald Morello.
On Oct. 16, at approximately 11:18 a.m., officers from the Stratford Police Department responded to the PNC Bank located on the 100 block of the White Horse Pike in Stratford for a bank robbery.
Officers learned the suspect had entered the bank just minutes earlier and passed a demand note to a teller.
The suspect then received U.S. currency and fled on foot on the White Horse Pike.
Shortly thereafter, officers observed an individual matching the suspect’s description and walking along the White Horse Pike.
The individual was identified as James Grady, 39, of Stratford.
Grady was taken into custody and officers located the stolen money on his person.
Additionally, Grady was found to be in possession of a PNC Bank pen.
Grady was charged with second-degree robbery.
He was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility.
“I want to credit the bank employees who acted with exceptional composure — they remained calm under pressure and immediately contacted law enforcement,” said Chief Morello.
“Because of their quick action, our officers were on scene within two minutes and were able to swiftly locate and apprehend the suspect while he was fleeing. Their vigilance made all the difference.”
