OLD TOWN, ME — A driver crashed his vehicle after fleeing from a Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office supervisor Friday night, according to authorities.
The Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Greenbush for a domestic disturbance during the evening of Oct. 17.
One of the individuals involved had left the property before deputies arrived, and an attempt to locate was sent to local law enforcement.
A short time later, the Old Town Police Department located the vehicle involved and attempted to stop it, but the vehicle crashed, striking a residence.
When the Sheriff’s Office became aware of the crash, a supervisor responded to the Old Town scene.
While traveling with emergency lights and sirens, the supervisor noticed a vehicle far ahead of him.
Rather than slowing and pulling over, the vehicle appeared to be accelerating.
The supervisor was far enough away that he lost sight of the vehicle.
Moments later, the supervisor came upon the vehicle crashed.
During the crash investigation, the driver confirmed he thought the supervisor was trying to stop him and he fled.
Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
Both the initial Greenbush incident and the subsequent Old Town incident remain under investigation.
