MIDDLESEX, NY — Authorities recovered a body from Canandaigua Lake on Thursday following a report of an overturned kayaker in distress.
The Yates County 911 Center received a call at approximately 10:19 a.m. reporting the incident near the Vine Valley boat launch in the Town of Middlesex.
Multiple agencies conducted an extensive search of the area using boats, drones and divers.
A body was located and recovered after a search and recovery operation that lasted over six hours.
The identity of the individual is not being released at this time to allow for notifications to be made to family members.
The Yates County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
Multiple Yates and Ontario County agencies assisted in the operation, including the Yates County Office of Emergency Services, Middlesex Fire Department, Branchport Keuka Park Fire Department Dive Team, Rushville Fire Department, Canandaigua Fire Department, Cheshire Fire Department and the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office dive team.
