HENRIETTA, NY — A U.S. Postal Service employee was shot in the parking lot of a post office early Friday morning.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the United States Post Office at 1335 Jefferson Road at approximately 12:40 a.m. Oct. 16 for a report of a person shot.
Deputies arrived and found one victim who is an employee of the post office.
The victim was seated in his personal vehicle when a suspect opened fire, striking both the victim and the vehicle, according to preliminary evidence.
The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle before deputies arrived.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for apparent non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.
MCSO K9 and drone units responded to the scene to assist.
Investigators are reviewing video footage and interviewing witnesses.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is working with the United States Postal Inspectors and other federal partners on the investigation.
Evidence indicates there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
The post office has resumed normal business hours.
