ALBANY, NY — A 60-year-old Albany man has been arrested in connection with a domestic homicide that occurred early Wednesday morning on Hudson Avenue.
On Wednesday around 8:10 a.m., officers responded to a residence on the 400 block of Hudson Avenue near South Lake Avenue for reports of an unresponsive female.
Upon arrival, officers located a 61-year-old female who sustained a significant head injury.
The victim, 61-year-old Angela Helms of Albany, was treated on scene by the Albany Fire Department and emergency medical personnel and pronounced deceased.
Further investigation determined that her brother, 60-year-old Alphonso Lester of Albany, caused the death of the victim by striking her with a blunt object before fleeing the scene.
The Albany Police Department’s Emergency Service Team and Crisis Management Team responded to Lester’s residence on the 100 block of Western Avenue where he was taken into custody after a standoff occurred.
Lester has been charged with one count of Murder 2nd and one count of Burglary 1st.
Additionally, Lester was also arrested on the strength of an active parole warrant.
He was arraigned Thursday morning in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
