WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — The Williamstown Police Department hosted three assessors this week as part of their process of achieving certification through the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission.
The assessment team consisted of Captain Victor Neal, retired, of the Westford Police Department as facilitator, Lieutenant Jason Hanscom of the Chelmsford Police Department and Sergeant Andrew Homestead of the Duxbury Police Department as assessors.
Over the course of two days the assessment team examined the policies and procedures of the Williamstown Police Department with a particular emphasis on high-risk activities such as use of force, motor vehicle pursuits, juveniles, evidence control and other areas.
Following this on-site assessment the team will provide their findings to the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission staff, where they will be further reviewed before being forwarded to the full commission for final review and approval.
The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission is expected to hold a final vote on the decision to grant certification status to the Williamstown Police Department at their February 2026 meeting.
Chief Michael Ziemba stated the Williamstown Police Department is grateful to the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission and the on-site assessment team for the professionalism and thoroughness of their review.
