Man arrested on child sexual abuse material charges in South Cairo

SOUTH CAIRO — A 68-year-old man was arrested on charges of possessing and promoting child sexual abuse material following a months-long investigation by New York State Police.

Timothy M. Scott, of Athens, was arrested Oct. 14 at the State Police Catskill barracks.

Scott was charged with promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 17 years of age, a Class D felony, and possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 16 years of age, a Class E felony.

The investigation began in September after state police received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

A search warrant was executed at Scott’s residence in Athens on Sept. 30.

Scott is accused of possessing and promoting images of child sexual exploitation.

The arrest was the result of a coordinated investigation conducted by the New York State Police Troop F Computer Crimes Unit, the Troop F Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Catskill and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Scott was arraigned in Athens Town Court, where bail was set at $15,000 cash, $30,000 secured bond or $45,000 partially secured bond.

He was released on bail bond.

As a condition of his release, he was ordered to wear a GPS monitoring anklet through pre-trial probation services.

Scott is scheduled to appear in Athens Town Court on Oct. 23.
