Elmira police officer arrested in Horseheads

HORSEHEADS — New York State Police have arrested an Elmira police officer following a months-long investigation into the unlawful release of confidential information.

Shyonna M. Pacheco, 26, of Pine City, was arrested Oct. 15 and charged with hindering prosecution in the second degree, a felony, two counts of official misconduct, a misdemeanor, and two counts of obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree, a misdemeanor.

State Police received a complaint July 22 from the Elmira Police Department regarding potential leaks of sensitive information.

Investigators launched an investigation that led to the execution of search warrants at two locations.

Pacheco was arraigned in Elmira City Court and released on her own recognizance pending future proceedings.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.

The Elmira Police Department has been working closely with State Police throughout the investigation.

The Schuyler County District Attorney is assigned as special prosecutor.
