SUMMERHILL — A 48-year-old man was arrested on drunken driving charges after a traffic stop on Oct. 8.
Clifton A. Payne, of Sempronius, was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.
A deputy on patrol in the area of Poverty Lane and Route 41A observed a vehicle traveling 80 mph in a posted 55 mph zone at approximately 9:25 p.m.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop and found Payne was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.
An investigation determined Payne was operating the vehicle while intoxicated, according to the sheriff’s office.
Payne was taken into custody and transported to the Public Safety Building for processing, where he provided a breath sample reading of .23% blood alcohol content.
He was processed and released on uniform traffic tickets, returnable to the Town of Summerhill Court on Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
