COLCHESTER — A Downsville man was arrested Friday afternoon on drug and driving while intaired charges following a traffic stop.
Brad McAdams, 48, of Downsville, was taken into custody after sheriff’s deputies observed his vehicle failing to maintain its lane on Gregory Hollow Road in the town of Colchester at approximately 3 p.m. Oct. 3.
Deputies recognized McAdams and conducted a Department of Motor Vehicles check, which revealed his New York State driver’s license was suspended, according to Delaware County Sheriff Craig S. DuMond.
During the traffic stop, McAdams showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody, DuMond said.
A search of the vehicle revealed a large quantity of suspected cocaine, according to the sheriff’s office.
McAdams was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, and aggravated unlicensed operator in the first degree, a class E felony.
He also faces a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony.
Additional charges include failure to keep right, unlicensed operator, open container and drivers view obstructed, all violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
McAdams was processed and turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment court.
