MATTAPOISETT — Police are seeking the public’s help to identify the owner of a boat that was abandoned on Wolf Island Road.
The vessel was left at the side of the road Thursday between 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Someone intentionally attempted to remove the Hull Identification Number from the boat, according to the Mattapoisett Police Department.
The removal efforts left visible evidence, and police said they expect it is only a matter of time before the owner is identified.
Police are encouraging the owner to come forward before removal and storage fees accumulate.
The owner may face substantial fees and possible criminal charges if they do not come forward, police said.
