WEST HAVEN — Officers arrested an 18-year-old man on multiple charges including weapons violations after he was caught shoplifting and found with a loaded ghost gun at Walmart on Oct. 13.
Police were dispatched to the West Haven Walmart at approximately 8:30 p.m. for a reported shoplifting in progress involving three males concealing items in their clothing.
Officers located one suspect, identified as Kamari Outlaw of West Haven, in the store’s vestibule and escorted him to the security office.
Outlaw initially provided a false name but officers recognized him from previous arrests.
When asked if he had weapons, Outlaw quickly reached toward his waistband as if attempting to retrieve something, police said.
Officers immediately moved to control his hands and prevent access to his waistband.
Outlaw resisted and fought with officers while continuing to reach for his waistband before being taken into custody after a brief struggle.
A search revealed a loaded 9mm P-80 ghost gun with no serial number and an extended magazine in his waistband area.
Several Oxycodone pills were found in his pockets.
Outlaw was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of a firearm with altered serial number, possession of a high capacity magazine, possession of a controlled substance, criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer, assault on an officer and sixth-degree larceny.
He was held on $150,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court on Oct. 14.
