PORTLAND — Portland Police were called to 5 Kennedy Park Oct. 12 at 3:05 p.m. for a report of a man in the parking area with two knives.
When the first officer arrived, he observed a man wielding two large knives, waving them and acting erratically.
The officer repeated multiple times for him to drop the knives when the man began walking towards him.
The officer continued to walk backwards to create more space as the individual picked up pace and displayed aggressive behavior.
A second officer arrived and blocked the man’s path before deploying his taser, causing the suspect to fall to the ground.
He was quickly subdued and transported to Maine Medical Center in protective custody.
Police believe the man was experiencing mental health issues.
The incident ended without serious injury.
