CRAFTSBURY — A distracted driver using a cell phone crossed the center line and crashed head-on with another vehicle on Vermont Route 14 near Morrison Drive on Oct. 13 at 4:08 p.m.
Antonio Latona, 47, of Eden, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado north on Route 14 when he became distracted by his cell phone, according to Vermont State Police.
Latona crossed the center line and collided with a 2017 Ford F-550 driven by Noah Bowser, 27, of Barre City, who was traveling south.
Neither driver was injured in the crash.
Latona’s Silverado sustained heavy front-end damage, while Bowser’s Ford sustained damage to the driver’s side bed.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Police discovered that Latona was required to have an ignition interlock device installed in his vehicle, but the device was not present.
Latona was cited for driving on a criminally suspended license and issued traffic citations for using a portable electronic device and improper lane usage.
Road conditions were dry and weather was cloudy at the time of the crash.
The Craftsbury Fire Department and E&M Towing assisted Vermont State Police at the scene.
