Waterloo man charged with DWI after rollover crash on West Main Street

WATERLOO — A 26-year-old Port Byron man was charged with driving while intoxicated after his vehicle rolled over following a multi-car crash on West Main Street on Oct. 12.

Cody C. Helmer was traveling westbound on West Main Street at about 10:33 p.m. when he moved out of the westbound lane and struck a parked vehicle on the north shoulder, according to the Waterloo Police Department.

The collision caused the parked vehicle to strike two other vehicles that were also parked on the north shoulder of the roadway.

Helmer’s vehicle rolled over and slid down West Main Street.

Police determined Helmer was operating his motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Helmer was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content of 0.18% or higher, reckless driving, moved from lane unsafely, unreasonable speed/special hazards, and speed not reasonable and prudent.

He was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Waterloo Town Court at a later date.

The Waterloo Police Department was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Waterloo Fire Department, and North Seneca Ambulance.
