ALBANY — State Police responded to a report of a wrong-way driver on Interstate 787 northbound at about 4:39 a.m. Oct. 12.
The incident resulted in a head-on crash in the area of exit 2.
The driver of a northbound vehicle sustained severe injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle sustained what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.
The ongoing investigation led to the closure of all I-787 northbound lanes between the I-87 Thruway and exit 3 for reconstruction of the crash.
Those lanes remain closed and are anticipated to reopen at approximately 12 p.m.
