Newburgh police arrest 13-year-old in fatal shooting of 11-year-old boy

NEWBURGH — A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy inside a Newburgh residence.

City of Newburgh Police responded to a shooting incident at 184 North Miller Street at approximately 8:17 a.m. on Oct. 9.

Officers arrived and located a single victim inside the residence who was deceased from a gunshot wound.

The victim has been identified as an 11-year-old juvenile male.

The City of Newburgh Detective Division and the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force immediately began investigating the incident.

During the investigation a firearm was recovered, and three juveniles of interest were identified and quickly located by police.

The coordinated response resulted in an arrest within 12 hours of the incident.

A 13-year-old juvenile male not related to the victim was arrested for Murder in the 2nd Degree, a Class A Felony.

The City of Newburgh Police Department received assistance from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Orange County District Attorney Investigators, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, State Police, ATF, Town of Newburgh Police Department, and Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.
