Since the signing of the warrant last month, Willimantic detectives sought the whereabouts of Heredia-Santiago.

The Willimantic Police Department notified the Norwich Police Department, whose officers assisted in taking Heredia-Santiago into custody.

Heredia-Santiago was transported back to the Willimantic Police Department where he was processed on charges of sexual assault in the first degree with a victim under 18 years old and actor in a guardian role, sexual assault in the first degree, and illegal sexual contact with a victim under the age of 16.

Heredia-Santiago was held on a court-set cash or surety bond and was scheduled to appear Oct. 9 in Danielson Superior Court.
