HALFMOON — State Police arrested two 20-year-old Schenectady men Thursday night after finding a loaded stolen handgun during a traffic stop.
Michael W. Lewis and Naasir K. Lawrence were each charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree and vehicle and traffic law violations.
Troopers received a complaint at about 11:09 p.m. Oct. 3 about a vehicle being driven erratically on State Route 9 in Halfmoon.
Officers patrolled the area and located a vehicle matching the caller’s description.
The vehicle was stopped on Pruyn Hill Road for a vehicle and traffic law violation.
Lewis was identified as the driver and Lawrence as the passenger.
During the investigation, troopers located and seized an illegally possessed loaded handgun from the vehicle.
The gun was later determined to have been reported stolen from Georgia in 2023.
Both men were arrested and transported to State Police Clifton Park for processing.
They were arraigned at Halfmoon Town Court.
Lewis was remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility in lieu of $30,000 cash, $60,000 bond or a $300,000 partially secured bond.
Lawrence was also remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash, $20,000 bond or a $500,000 partially secured bond.
