Missing 84-year-old Canaan man found safe in Canada

CANAAN — Vermont State Police reported that Jean Claude Fauteux, 84, of Canaan, who went missing Tuesday, has been found safe in Canada.

At about 5 p.m. Tuesday, members of the Quebec Provincial Police and the RCMP located Fauteux alive and well in St. Hermenegilde, Quebec.

He was cleared medically in Canada and brought back to Canaan, where he was reunited with his family.

The Vermont State Police thanked all agencies involved in the search for Fauteux in Vermont and Canada.

Fauteux was reported missing by family members at approximately 4:38 p.m. Tuesday after he was last seen around 11:30 a.m. at his residence on Vermont Route 114 in Canaan.

Police said there was no indication Fauteux was missing under suspicious circumstances, but there were concerns for his welfare due to his status as a vulnerable adult.
