UTICA — Utica Police units were dispatched to 100 Rutger St, Kennedy Plaza apartments on Oct. 1 relative to an individual yelling in the hallway and threatening tenants.

Officers were directed to a particular apartment where they could hear a female inside yelling and screaming.

They attempted several times to have her come to the door without success.

Eventually the female came to the door, and upon opening it raised a kitchen knife in a threatening manner and came toward the officer.

The officer drew their firearm at which time the female ran back into her apartment and shut the door.

Crisis negotiators were requested to the scene, and after a period of time they were able to have the female exit and she was taken into custody without issue.

The female was then transported to the Wynn Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Upon her release on Oct. 6, Michelle Maramarco, 68, of Utica was charged with menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
