Pedestrian struck by freight train in Tompkins Cove

TOMPKINS COVE — A 21-year-old man was struck by a CSX freight train Sunday evening and airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries, New York State Police said.

Troopers from the Haverstraw barracks responded to the incident at approximately 5:40 p.m. Oct. 5 in the area of Tompkins Cove in the town of Stony Point.

The preliminary investigation revealed the man was on the railroad tracks prior to the passing of the freight train and was subsequently struck, police said.

The train came to a stop and emergency services were immediately contacted to render aid.

The victim was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

The investigation remains ongoing.
