Glen Spey man dies in Stony Point crash on Palisades Parkway

STONY POINT — A 29-year-old Glen Spey man died Sunday afternoon when his BMW struck a Jeep and then crashed into trees on the Palisades Interstate Parkway.

Corey Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene of the 3:16 p.m. crash near Exit 17 on the southbound side of the parkway.

New York State Police said Gardner was driving a 2022 BMW at a high rate of speed when he used a visitor center on-ramp to try to pass a 2022 Jeep Compass in the left lane.

The BMW re-entered the travel lane and struck the front driver’s side of the Jeep, causing Gardner to lose control of his vehicle.

The BMW left the western side of the roadway at a high rate of speed and struck multiple trees.

The 32-year-old female driver of the Jeep and her passenger were not injured.

State police from the Haverstraw barracks are investigating the crash.
