CAMDEN — A 44-year-old man was arrested following a domestic investigation that began Oct. 1, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.

Deputies responded to a domestic incident in the Town of Annsville on Oct. 1.

The case was turned over to the domestic violence unit for further investigation.

Investigators learned the suspect had several active warrants from multiple police agencies and had evaded arrest for an extended period regarding those warrants.

On Oct. 3, investigators located and arrested the suspect in the Village of Camden.

Shawn E. Smith, 44, was charged with stalking in the fourth degree, a class B misdemeanor.

Smith was arraigned and released on his own recognizance at Centralized Arraignment for that charge.

Smith was then taken into custody by New York State Police to be processed on active warrants from their agency.

Following that processing, Smith was processed by Rome Police on several warrants and returned to the Oneida County Jail.

Smith was remanded pending future court appearances.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the MVCAC, State Police and Camden Police Department.
