FALL RIVER — Five people were arrested early Sunday after a large group blocked roadways and engaged in street racing that forced an ambulance to reroute and cut off access to two hospitals.

Officers responded at approximately 12:26 a.m. Sunday to multiple reports of reckless driving, street racing and blocked roadways throughout the city.

On Innovation Way, a private ambulance was forced to reroute when participants refused to allow passage.

Officers then responded to Davol Street and Central Street, where approximately 200 participants had completely blocked the roadway.

Individuals in high-visibility vests acted as road guards while vehicles performed burnouts and donuts, and fireworks were set off in the street.

Many participants wore masks to conceal their identities and showed complete disregard for police presence.

Davol Street, which provides direct access to St. Anne’s Hospital and Charlton Memorial Hospital, was entirely shut down.

Investigation revealed the group had gathered earlier in Brockton before traveling as a convoy to Fall River.

Officers towed four vehicles and made five arrests on scene.

The following individuals were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and conspiracy: Jahir Gonzalez, 22, of New Bedford; Alexander Copsetta, 21, of North Easton; Alyssa Deyoung, 19, of Bridgewater; and Mackenzie Benjamin, 19, of Kingston.

Aiden Meehen, 20, of Oxford, was charged with the above offenses and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

A warrant has been requested for Brennden Ortega, 19, of New Bedford, on similar charges, including resisting arrest.

Police said further identifications are ongoing through body-worn camera footage.
