ROCKLAND — Rockland Police officers conducting proactive traffic enforcement stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation around 8 p.m. Saturday.
The operator, Mary Sczepaniak, 47, of Thomaston, was found to be on bail conditions from a prior felony drug charge.
A passenger provided law enforcement with a false name and was found to have an active warrant for theft and was in violation of bail conditions for having contact with a prior victim.
A search of the vehicle found over 15 grams of illicit drugs, including fentanyl, crack cocaine and methamphetamine.
The illicit drugs and several thousand dollars in suspected drug proceeds were seized.
The passenger was arrested on the warrant.
While in custody, the passenger sustained self-inflicted injuries by hitting their head against the cruiser prisoner partition.
While the individual was being treated for injuries, officers learned they had ingested a large amount of illicit drugs in an attempt to destroy evidence when officers first made contact.
Sczepaniak was arrested and booked into the Knox County Jail on charges of felony unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and violation of conditions of release.
The passenger, who is being treated for drug exposure, faces charges including violation of conditions of release, failure to provide correct name, falsifying physical evidence and criminal mischief.
