RANDOLPH — The Randolph Police Department is investigating a large-scale vehicle takeover incident that occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Oak Street and North Main Street.
Officers responding to the scene encountered a crowd of more than 100 individuals who immediately began targeting the marked police cruisers.
The individuals struck the cruisers with their fists and other objects, sat on the hoods while officers were attempting to drive, and leaned against the bumpers as cruisers tried to navigate the area.
Many of the individuals were concealing their faces with masks and videotaping themselves during the incident.
Some individuals sat on the hoods of cruisers and lit fireworks, placing the officers inside in extreme danger.
Randolph Police Officers worked to clear the intersection as quickly and safely as possible to avoid delaying fire department or ambulance response from the North Randolph Fire Station.
The Randolph Police Department is actively investigating the incident.
