UTICA — A 33-year-old Utica man has been charged with attempted assault after police say he struck a woman multiple times with his vehicle following an argument early Friday morning.
Utica Police and Fire units were dispatched to the 1000 block of West Street at approximately 2:10 a.m. Oct. 3 regarding a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a female victim had been struck several times by a vehicle and that the operator had fled the scene.
Police issued a BOLO alert for the vehicle and operator, and patrol units located the vehicle several blocks away.
The vehicle was occupied by the suspect and another passenger, and both were detained for further investigation.
At the original scene, police determined that an argument had occurred and during the dispute, the male operator, Derrell Henderson, had initially struck the female victim with the car and then proceeded to strike her again, pinning her beneath the vehicle before fleeing.
The female victim was transported by the Utica Fire Department to Wynn Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Based on the facts of the incident, a member of the Criminal Investigations Division charged Henderson with attempted assault in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and several New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
