GATES — A Gates Police officer arrested a Rochester man on weapons charges Oct. 1 after discovering a loaded firearm during a traffic stop.
The officer stopped a vehicle in the 3300 block of Lyell Road for operating without license plates.
The driver had a suspended license and was not permitted to operate a vehicle, police said.
A loose license plate found in the vehicle was determined to be stolen from Rochester.
The driver and multiple passengers, none of whom had valid licenses, were removed from the vehicle.
Javon Smith, 35, of Rochester, was found in possession of a loaded .32-caliber revolver.
Smith is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms.
His previous felony conviction was for criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
Smith was transported to Monroe County Jail for arraignment in CAP court.
