School bus strikes pedestrian in Auburn intersection

AUBURN — The Auburn Police Department was dispatched to a report of a bus/pedestrian collision at the Genesee Street/Loop Road intersection on Oct. 2 at approximately 2:38 p.m.

The bus, a First Student school bus with students on board, had been facing westbound on Genesee Street in the left turn lane at the Loop Road intersection when it turned left onto Loop Road.

After turning left, the bus struck a pedestrian who was reportedly walking eastbound.

The pedestrian, a 66-year-old woman whose name will not be released at this time, was transported to University Hospital for a possible head injury.

The pedestrian was admitted to the hospital as a precautionary measure and treatment for the reported non-life-threatening injuries.

No individuals on the bus were reported to have any injuries.

The driver of the bus is not being identified at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

Assisting at the scene were personnel from First Student Inc., the New York State Police and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.
